It is with a heavy heart that Little Avondale (LA) announce the passing of Nadeem. The Group 1 winning son of Redoute’s Choice had not been in great health and after discussion with Angus Gold the decision was taken to humanely euthanise the 18-year-old.
Nadeem’s arrival at LA in 2012, after five seasons at Darley Australia, was a homecoming of sorts as the farm had bred his mother, the Oaks winner (It’s) Candide.
Bred by John Foote, Nadeem was bought for A$700,000 from the Inglis Easter Sale by Angus Gold for Sheik Hamdan and Shadwell. Trained by David Hayes, the colt was a brilliant winner of the 2006 Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes, defeating Miss Finland. He was also named Champion 2YO colt of his year.
Sire of international Group 1 winner Sterling City and 18 other stakes winners at a strike rate of 66.5% stakes winners to runners, Nadeem compiled an excellent record over 15 seasons at stud.
Nadeem was always a pleasure to handle and will be sorely missed by us all here at LA.
