Australian Success Caps Week For Per Incanto

An ability to finish his races off strongly has seen Lanciato (Per Incanto-Surreptitious by O’Reilly)  post an impressive last to first victory in a $100,000 1300m event at the feature NSW Saturday meeting at Hawkesbury, and in the process, potentially setting-up the four-year-old gelding for a crack at next month’s Group 3 Scone Cup.

The JML Bloodstock and LA bred Lanciato, who came into Saturdays contest off a last start 1400m success at Rosehill,  is a real credit to the emerging trainer career of Mark Newnham who left his long standing role of assistant trainer to Gai Waterhouse early last year to train on his own account at Warwick Farm.

“His finishing sectionals are terrific and Tommy Berry (Saturday’s rider) timed it well,” Newnham said.

Progressive three-year-old sprinter Fibonacci (Per Incanto- Da Vinci Code by Danasinga) led all the way to defeat older horses in the rating 65 1200m at Hastings on Saturday. Bred and owned by LA in partnership with the horses trainer, Stephen Mercer, Fibonacci has won three times in a consistent three-year-old campaign.

The victories by Lanciato and Fibonacci followed a treble of winners for Per Incanto last Saturday at Trentham and two midweek winners at Wingatui.
