Little BroseThe Advantageous
Little Avondale are delighted to confirm their newest addition, Per Incanto's Gr.1 Australian winning two-year-old son Little Brose, who will stand his first season at the farm in 2025.
After running second to the Godolphin two-year-old Barber in the Gr.3 Blue Diamond Prelude, the Per Incanto colt lined up two weeks later to brilliantly claim the time-honoured 1200m Gr.1 Blue Diamond Stakes beating no less than seven future stakes horses.
Showing his toughness, Little Brose then travelled to Sydney three weeks later to contest the Gr.1 Golden Slipper, running midfield behind Shinzo and Cylinder.
Targeted at the Gr.1 Caulfield Guineas in the spring of his three-year-old year, Little Brose, despite showing a clear appreciation for the sprinting trips, was still very competitive, running 3rd in the Gr.3 McNeil Stakes behind subsequent Gr.1 winner Veight.
Owned in Hong Kong, Little Brose was relocated to the former British colony for just two starts. Unplaced on debut on a bottomless heavy track in the Gr.1 Chairman's Sprint, he then ran second at his next start. It was in a trial post this race that he suffered a significant injury.
As a son of LA’s outstanding Gr.1 producing stallion Per Incanto (Street Cry), who recently recorded his 32nd individual stakes winner, Little Brose’s male sire line needs no introduction. It's a sire line that continues to go from strength to strength in Australasia, having three sons inside the top 15 on the Australian Sires Premiership as of 21 December 2024, a list headed by Street Cry’s Gr.1 winning Blue Diamond Stakes winner Pride of Dubai, with Per Incanto sitting in 9th position and Street Boss positioned 15th.
Standing at 16 hands, Little Brose is a beautifully balanced type with good rein and scope. An outstanding walking horse, he has an intelligent well-set head and eye with a huge nostril.
The Australasian market moves more to the colonial bred sprinter milers by the year and the established sire lines which are proven under conditions in this part of the world continue to prosper. Per Incanto has displayed the rare ability for a New Zealand based sprinting profiled sire to produce types who compete at the highest level in Australia.
New Zealand hasn't had a Gr.1 Australian winning stallion since Darci Brahma retired in 2006. It's also worth noting that Darci’s elite level success as a juvenile came over 1600m whereas Little Brose’s was at 1200m.Previous winners of the Blue Diamond Stakes who forged outstanding stallion careers include Redoute’s Choice, Bel Esprit, Rancher, Zeditave, Pride of Dubai, Star Witness and Extreme Choice.
Future success comes to those who plan for it and in Little Brose, LA are confident that the best and most precocious of Per Incanto's two year old progeny is the right kind of stallion for Australasian breeding success.
