Mating Analysis Little Brose

LA’s latest acquisition Little Brose promises to be a genetic goldmine for Australasian breeders.
Gr.1 winners Jimmysstar, Roch 'N' Horse, Belclare, Bonham, Shadows Cast and Santa Monica all carry male lines of Danzig.
The other nicks evident in Per Incanto’s better progeny are with the champion sire O'Reilly and Success Express, the dam sire of Champion Street Cry mare Winx. Dual Gr.1 winner Belclare is from an O'Reilly mare, from a Keeper (Danehill) mare, while mares carrying Succes Express have been responsible for Gringotts and the recent Gr.2 winner Marotiri Molly.
Little Brose’s female family contains a number of successful stallions, some of whom aren't commonly found in Australasian pedigrees.
His dam Mohegan Sky is a granddaughter of the beautifully bred and very successful sire St Ballardo, a son of Halo, who sired the breed shaper Sunday Silence. Saint Bellardo was on the way to becoming an exceptional sire before his untimely passing.
Mohegan Sky’s dam is a half-sister to Her Mink Coat, an allowance winner in America who has established a prominent black-type family in Australia, which has worked extremely well with Danehill line stallions. Absolut Glam, a Group 1 Danehill line bred winner from the family has a promising two-year-old by Brutal, a son of O’Reilly.
Little Brose also carries just the one line of Mr Prospector, giving breeders the opportunity to introduce additional lines of the influential chestnut champion stallion. Duplicating Mr Prospector in pedigrees, either sex balanced, or male/male has proven very successful.
Time Test mares would make excellent cohorts for Little Brose, with a line of Mr Prospector, Northern Dancer and Danzig.
Little Brose has two sex balanced lines of Nijinsky, an influence who is increasingly prominent in the pedigrees of a number of leading gallopers including this year’s Group 1 winners Antino and War Machine.
One of those lines of Nijinsky is through his son Seattle Dancer, who happens to be a ½ brother to fellow Group 1 winners and successful sires Lomond and Seattle Slew. All three half-brothers share the blue hen dam My Charmer.
Breeders could therefore line bred to a prominent female in classic Tesio fashion using mares carrying the blood of Lomond and/or Seattle Slew. Lomond is the dam sire of the champion stallion Exceed an Excel, whose bloodline is prominent down under through a number of sire sons, while the likes of daughters of Astern and Tassort, who are both from Exceed an Excel mares, would work extremely well.
The Seattle slew bloodline is however not as common, at least in NZ. The only active commercial option in New Zealand is Saville Row, although it is also found in the pedigree of the exported Ten Sovereign, so mares by that stallion, who stood a couple of seasons here, would be ideal.
Little Brose has a female line of the influential stallion Caro and breeders may like to consider introducing another line which they could achieve using a mare by Almanzor or Proisir.
The real key to unlocking Little Brose’s genetic potential possibly lies deep in his pedigree where he has significant multiple duplications of mares such as Selene (very prominent in the pedigrees of Sir Tristram) and Mumtaz Mahal.
In summary, many of the lines which have worked so well with Per Incanto, notably Danehill and his son Danehill, O’Reilly (which duplicates the outstanding matron Best In Show) and Success Express (the dam sire of Savabeel) will work extremely well with Little Brose.
Mares by Ardrossan would make ideal cohorts on pedigree, providing the Danehill/Danzig bloodline, and you also duplicate Best In Show through the female family of Redoute’s Choice.
Little Brose is a fascinating study for breeding enthusiasts.
