Black Type For LA Family

On a Saturday of Australasian racing, LA’s focus was on outstanding performances from a trio of hardy racemares. The highlight was the inaugural black-type win of the Lohnro mare Beirut in the 1200m Group 3 SAJC Spring Stakes in Adelaide.

LA are breeding from Lucky We Leica, a half sister to Beirut’s dam, and her first foal, an unnamed two-year-old daughter of Pins, was runner-up to the subsequent Riccarton winner and highly rated filly La Diosa (So You Think) in her only trial in February.

At Flemington Nadeem Lass (Nadeem-Danrego by Danzero) franked her last start second to Beirut with a winning performance in the 1400m VRC Member John Lee Handicap. Saturday’s win took the Nadeem mares stake earnings to Aus $467,000.

And on a day where the big wet in Christchurch ruined the chances of the Jim Barlow bred pre-post second favourite Lochan Ora (Towkay-Shivnavas by Centaine) in the Group 3 Winter Cup, the tough Towkay mare Rocknrolla (Towkay-Danness by Danehill) recorded her seventh career success over 1400m at Ruakaka.

First and foremost, stockman and people whose interest in the animal translates into an innate ability to read how a horse will develop. I’ll see a foal at LA and Sam or Buzz will tell me how they expect it to develop. I’ll see it during my Karaka inspections 12 months later, and you could blow me over with a feather
