Her career is full of highlights but dual Group 1 winning Towkay mare Viadana (Towkay-Yeah Nah by Kinjite) produced arguably a career best performance to land Saturday’s Group 2 Japan New Zealand International Trophy at Tauranga. Lumping 59kg and giving weight to proven performers like fellow LA bred dual Group 1 winner Xanadu, and Australian Group 3 winner Zonza, the six-year-old mare still produced her trademark burst of acceleration late to land the 1600m feature.
One of the features of our Karaka draft next year will be this Per Incanto half sister to Viadana.
In a weekend of highlights for the farm, Towkay gained his second new stakes placed performer in seven days when the Auret family bred, owned and trained Rohaise (Towkay-Volaisha by Volksraad) ran third in the Listed Valachi Downs Canterbury Breeders Stakes over 1600m at Riccarton on Saturday.
Hurrikin (Towkay-Hurricane Fashion by Hurricane Sky) won his 1200m event at Timaru on Thursday.
In a good weekend in Australia for resident LA stallion Nadeem (Redoute’s Choice – Candide by Sound Reason), his five-year-old son Happy Galaxy (Nadeem-Seven Stars) showed something of the form that bought up a Group 2 win in Sydney last autumn with a fast finishing third place finish in the 1200m Listed Dandenong Stakes in Melbourne on Saturday, while the following day, the Guy Walter trained Bloomsbury Stud Oakdale Royal (Nadeem-Kowtow by Shadeed) took the Aus $40,000 Kembla Grange Stayers Cup over 2400m.
A couple of LA bred sons of Darci Brahma recorded 1200m victories in Singapore last week. Both Kinglsey from Miss Moneytree and Beauty Harmony from Nikki’s Bride, were graduates of our Karaka drafts.
A couple of recent results augured well for our upcoming National Weanling Sale draft on 12-14 May. Three-year-old Search Squad (Falkirk – Comb the Sea by Prince SalIeri)who made it back to back wins with his Cranbourne success on Friday was a graduate of our 2011 Weanling Sale draft, while a member of our draft this year, a Keeper colt from the Centaine mare Wait a Minute, had his half brother Nippin win over 1650m at Waverley yesterday.
