Caulfield Results Significant For LA

The pedigrees of two LA based broodmares were enhanced following racing at Caulfield on Saturday.

Pinnacles (Fuji Kiseki-Galroof) franked his Sandown Open Handicap win of a fortnight ago with success in the Perri Cutten Classic 1400m. Galroof, a group winner and one of the early favourites for the 2002 Caulfield Cup before suffering a career ending injury, is a half sister to Ricky Savoury's mare Steluta. LA sold last seasons Group One VRC Derby runner-up Gorky Park (Montjeu-Steluta) on Ricky's behalf at Karaka in 2005. We will be selling Steluta's latest yearling, a stunning Savabeel colt, at Karaka next year.

Centra Rainbeam the dam of Belcentra, third in Saturdays Group Three Thoroughbred Club Stakes 1200m is a half sister to young LA and Pip McCarroll broodmare Ashley Downs. Lisa Latta has syndicated a two year old Keeper filly out of Ashley Downs to clients of hers. Watch out for Towkay - Ashley Downs colt at Karaka 2008, he's a very impressive type and there is definitly a lot of dad about him. Selliera, the dam of Centra Rainbeam and Ashley Downs is a half sister to Sneetch the dam of Gussy Godiva (dam of Rios) and Black Mamba, fifth in last seasons New Zealand Oaks and recently group placed in the United States. It's also the family of group winner Fleur De'Chine, dam of Mark Walkers exciting three-year-old filly Fleur De'Here. This is a family really on the move and open to more black type over coming months through the deeds of Rios and Fleur De'Here.

The well named Yelracm (Towkay-Our Secret) scored fresh-up at Otaki last Thursday. The Grant Searle trained four-year-old gelding had run well against some nice types in three-year-old company last autumn and looks to be a promising type.

Sunday evening in Hong Kong saw a Wairarapa quinella in the Class Four 1400m with the Te Parae bred King Acrylic (Danasinga-Frisco Ann) scoring from the LA and late Neil Petrie bred Special Days (Keeper-Eva's Belle). Special Days was sold from our Karaka Premier Yearling draft in 2005 to Cherry Taylor for $110,000. King Acrylic's family actually had a very good weekend with Dress Suit(Pins-Flight Queen) winning in Perth also.

One of the more significant foalings this last week was a Towkay colt from Shahiid (Pentire- Star Royal) the full sister to 2006/07 NZ Stayer of the Year Pentathon. Owned in conjunction with Richard and Sarah Greaves of Masterton the mare goes to Elusive City this season. And over in Australia, We Leica delivered us a Bradbury's Luck half sister to Delbrae.

Pachanga (Redoute's Choice-Foxtrot) made her debut in the Listed Debutants Stakes over 1000m at Caulfield this Wednesday. Expectations are always that little bit higher when you have a sale topping filly stepping out and we weren't disappointed with her going down by a nose to the race favourite and more experienced Sugarbabe. Pachanga was sold from the LA draft at Karaka this year for $700,000 to Dean Hawthorn for Jonathon Munz.

And to cap the LA news off on Wednesday evening in Hong Kong, Prime Target (Towkay - Lady of the Lake) made it two wins from two starts for trainer Casper Fownes!

First and foremost, stockman and people whose interest in the animal translates into an innate ability to read how a horse will develop. I’ll see a foal at LA and Sam or Buzz will tell me how they expect it to develop. I’ll see it during my Karaka inspections 12 months later, and you could blow me over with a feather
