Close Relative To Kildare In LA Karaka Draft

Sam and Pip McCarroll pulled the right rein when mating young LA mare Ashley Downs with O'Reilly in 2007. The resultant colt who is lot 986 in this months Karaka Select Sale is a very close blood relation to Kildare (O'Reilly- Jackie'O) who took the Group 3 Chow Fook Bauhinia Sprint Trophy in Hong Kong on Saturday. The LA bred Jackie'O is a grand daughter of the blue hen mare Sellou as is Ashley Downs

LA's lot 1079 in the Karaka Select Sale - the Savabeel/Clermont Lass colt - also received an update on his pedigree page courtesy of Analytic's (Towkay-Kentucky Lass) second win at Thames last Friday at just his sixth start. Kentucky Lass and Clermont Lass are half sisters.

Despite the drizzling rain a crowd of approximately 100 came out to the stud on Sunday to view the public parade of our Karaka draft.

This was the first showing any of the draft had endured before a crowd so we were delighted with their performance; a real credit to Charlene and the Team.

The Premier draft head up SH1 to Karaka this Monday morning at 1am!

The winners keep rolling in up in Asia for Towkay with three on Saturday. Ambitious Owner (Towkay-Melissa Moon) scored over 1400m in Hong Kong while Ego's Malang (Towkay-Hyapatia Lee) and Oileisumsum (Towkay-Glacier Queen) both won over 1400m in Singapore.

Locally Smeach (Towkay-Meach) made it back to back wins with his win at Waipukurau last Thursday over 1400m.

Probably the most talked about son of Towkay in Hong Kong at present is Amazing Flyer (Towkay-Vicki Buck). Bred by Nick Wigley, Amazing Flyer who had created an enormous impression when winning his sole trial outing in New Zealand last July was a very close second on debut at Sha Tin last week despite a very tough run in transit. Just yesterday Sam loaded Vick Buck, safely back foal to Towkay, onto the horse transporter for her journey home to Nick in Christchurch.

There was some more good publicity for LA with Karaka just around the corner with the news that filtered through to us last week concerning the impressive trail win of Marquardt (Shamardal-Centrefold Angel) over 817m at Warwick Farm on 2 January. The filly was purchased from our Karaka Premier draft last year by Patinack Farms for $100,000.

Family, our families have done so much together in the industry and sociably, there's not too many industries today that allow you to do that.
