Auckland Cup week which kicks off this Saturday should be an absolute cracker and next Fridays Carnival Sale at Karaka which debuted last year, presents a great opportunity for picking up a well priced yearling capable of not only running in the next Karaka Million but also a Carnival Sale bonus race during Cup week next year. LA takes two Towkay colts north for the sale; Lot 102 from the Grosvenor mare Meach and lot 49 a half brother to this season's stakesplaced mare Kitty O'Hara.
LA have a small but select draft of three yearlings heading over the Tasman for the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale, commencing this year on April 20. Lot 397 is bound to turn plenty of heads with his imposing physique. A closer inspection of his pedigree reveals he's a half brother to Gorky Park ($360,000 yearling at Karaka in 2005), runner-up to Efficient in last seasons Group One VRC Derby.
Zabeel needs no introduction and he's the sire of LA's two other yearlings going forward to Sydney. Lot 59 a filly, is the third foal of group two winning three-year-old Dancing Daze; Lot 338 is a colt with stallion appeal as the second foal of Rites of Spring, a Stravinsky half sister to Zabeel stakeswinners Men at Work and Philosophe. Sam heads off to Sydney with the draft on 13th April.
Towkay had another winner in Asia when D'Mighty Bull scored over 1400m in Singapore on Sunday. Bred by BA & RJ Todd, the Towkay-Snow Cloud colt was a $50,000 purchase by John Foote from LA's Karaka Select draft in 2005.
Geordie Girl (Towkay-Racing Waters) beaten a nose last Saturday on Premier Day at Matamata looks an exciting prospect for owner W Jeffries and trainer Lance Noble next season. If she'd run straight at her previous start in the Wairarapa Breeders they would probably have a stakesplaced mare on their hands but those sort of riches await the talented four-year-old mare next season.
Just to finish, a soon to be named Towkay - Cantante two-year-old colt who scored easily at the Foxton trials will have his first raceday start in a fortnight. He was bred by longtime stud client Lorraine Jameson and hails from her wonderful mare Chantal. And Lady Beretta (Towkay - Warcry) trained by Guy Lowry will race at 2.35pm at the Marton JC meeting, Awapuni.
