Saturdays Listed Ryder Stakes at Foxton almost delivered a dream result for our new stallion Zed and client.Helen Phinney.
Helen is breeding from the Zeditave mare Stella Suprema, the dam of the Listed Ryder Stakes runner-up Jasminka. Stella Suprema who has also left last seasons Hong Kong winner Speedy by Towkay, is currently in foal to Zed.
LA bred two winners at last Thursdays Cranbourne meeting in Victoria however it was somewhat bittersweet for us as both dams are prematurely deceased.
Towcutter (Towkay-Eva's Belle) backed up from a second on debut to score over 1200m for trainer Ray Cleaver. Ray purchased Towcutter from our 2006 South Island Sale draft for just $10,000.
Herajah (Centaine-Madonna Bay) was the other LA bred winner, scoring over 2025m. Madonna Bay's last foal was an Elusive City colt that we sold for $100,000 at the 2007 Karaka Premier Sale.
Locally Macrob became Towkays 23rd individual winner for the season with a well deserved win at his local Foxton meeting on Saturday. This takes Towkay's stake earnings for the season here in New Zealand to $996,776 which currently has him in 10th position.
Towkay's individual winners tally in Asia this month reached five courtesy of D'Mighty Bull (Towkay-Snowcloud) and Hey Toro (Towkay-Grand Vitesse) in Singapore last Friday evening. In fact Noble One (Towkay-Cinzano) so nearly made it six when nosed out in the last! Noble One now has had 6 starts for 5 seconds.
The LA and Rob Tunnicliffe bred Pinelope (Pins-Cymbidium) made it back to back wins in July with another success in Queensland on Sunday over 1100m. Going to the South Island Sale on 8th August trying to find another Caulfield Cup winner like Master O'Reilly, then take a look at lot 133 which Ranganui Farm are selling on our behalf. He's a nice Towkay colt and a first foal from an O'Reilly mare in Barbarelle. He could even be another Towcutter.
If you haven't made your mating decisions for this year there are still bookings available to both Towkay and Zed (Zabeel-Emerald Dream). Ring Sam on 0274 853400 and watch out for an announcement on the website concerning an open day at the farm in September.

First and foremost, stockman and people whose interest in the animal translates into an innate ability to read how a horse will develop. I’ll see a foal at LA and Sam or Buzz will tell me how they expect it to develop. I’ll see it during my Karaka inspections 12 months later, and you could blow me over with a feather
