LA Bred Goes Oh So Close In NZ Oaks

Half a head was all that separated the LA bred Can't Keeper Down (Keeper-Ashley Downs) from the winner in Saturdays Group OneNew Zealand Oaks at Trentham. Leased out to clients of Awapuni trainer Lisa Latta by LA after been passed in at the 2007 Karaka Select Sale, Can't Keeper Down adds a group one second to her resume which includes a group three second placing earlier in the season.

Bred by LA and Pip McCaroll, Can't Keeper Down who is the first foal of Grosvenor mare Ashley Downs, hails from one of the hottest families in the NZ stud book, the Sellou/Sneetch clan. Another member of this family, Rios (Hussonet-Gussy Godiva) who took out the feature race at Waikato on Saturday, was sold from LA's 2006 Karaka Premier draft for his breeders Arthur and Mick Ormond.

Prevaricate (Postponed-Trigon Lass) who made it a hat trick of wins with his three length success in Melbourne on 11 March, has a Zabeel half brother selling as lot 289 in next months Sydney Easter Sale. The Rodney Douglas trained Prevaricate was a $30,000 purchase by Dean Hawthorne Bloodstock from our 2006 Karaka Premier draft.

Speaking of Australia Towkay also posted two winners, one from the John Morrisey stables on the Gold Coast Bringelly(Towkay - Stranami) and the LA bred Silent Prayer(Towkay - Cooininee) for Mark De Montfort at Oakbank.

Longtime LA client Lorraine Jameson has a wonderful run the last 6 weeks with her broodmare Kincia. The roll started in Hong Kong with Appreciation (Danasinga-Kincia) winning his first 2 starts and then last week Casey (Towkay-Kincia) scored over 1400m at Matamata.

Appreciation who was a $92,500 purchase from our 2007 Karaka Select draft by John Foote Bloodstock almost made it a hat trick of wins with a close second at Sha Tin on 7 March. Casey was a $30,000 purchase by J Robb from our 2006 Karaka Festival draft.

Towkay looks to have another smart Hong Kong performer judging by the win on debut of Ribot Legend (Towkay-Tzigane) over 1200m at Sha Tin on 7 March. Towkay continued his run in Hong Kong on Sunday night with Super Bobo(Towkay - Reasonable) breaking maiden ranks after his good third last start and both Towkay Flyer(Towkay - Classic Realm) and Amazing Flyer(Towkay - Vicki buck) continuing their forever consistent form by running second in their respective races.

Wai (Towkay-Iamwhatiam) scored her fifth career success when taking the R90 2200M on Saturday's Premier Day at Trentham. The other good win in New Zealand for LA Stud was the 2007 Select Sale Topping colt at Karaka Packing Hero(Towkay - Cymbidium). Bred by Rod Tunnicliff and LA Stud Packing Hero scored his first win from just his third start for trainer Lance Nobl.

The LA bred and owned Bellabaci (Zabeel-Sound Lover) broke her maiden in Victoria last Friday at her fourth start. Despite running greenly again the regally bred filly found the step to 1600m to her liking causing trainer Danny O'Brien to consider some of the upcoming Oaks races in Adelaide or Queensland. Also Sound Lover looks as if she has another smart one in Hong Kong from the Danny Shum stable in Smart Knight(O'Reilly - Sound Lover) finishing second on Sunday
