LA Onnections On Group One Day In The Bay

Late last season we bought you the news that "Charlie" the much loved yearling by our staff and the star of our 2008 Karaka Select draft had won first time to the trials for trainer David Haworth.

Well the still unnamed No Excuse Needed-Soneri three-year-old gelding remains unbeaten at the trials following a win over 1000m at Otaki earlier this week.

Speaking of the Otaki trials, Towkay looks to have another smart type in his capacity as a dam sire judging by the win of Gary Vile's unnamed two-year-old Gold Centre -Spectre filly.

Environment Patron (Montjeu-Nikki's Bride) who scored over 1600m in Adelaide last week was bred by LA, Don Gordon and Bryan Hutchinson and was sold from LA's 2006 Karaka draft to BBA Ireland for $400,000.

New Zealand's first major meet for the new season takes place at Hawkes Bay this Saturday and hoping to gain a start is Gregor Robson's under rated gelding High Octane (Towkay-Trendy and True). Currently second emergency for the main race, the ultra consistent chestnut will be a major player if he instead lines up in the Open Handicap.

The LA bred Can't Keeper Down (Keeper-Ashley Downs) commences her Kelt campaign when she lines up in the R94 1600m.

Foaling's this last week include a lovely solid brown colt from the mare Romantic Liasions. Romantic Liasions is a half sister to Reigning To Win's Dam.

There are spaces still available to both Towkay and Zed for the mating season which begins in earnest on 1 September. Towkay's book looks like being his best yet with the reduced fee of $6,500 attracting a lot of breeders and in particular new clients, many from the Waikato.
