LA's proud record in the Group One Caulfield Cup continued on Saturday when the Christopher Grace bred Tullamore (Savabeel-Trocair) finished third in the time honoured race. Tullamore who was prepared by LA for the 2008 Karaka Select Yearling Sale where he was passed in for $55,000, joins other Te Parae and LA bred or reared luminaries, Ilumquh, Straight Draw, Laebeel and Roman Emperor to run a run a dividend bearing position in the great staying handicap.
The dream start to the new season continued for Towkay over the past week, with four more individual winners, bringing his tally of winners to ten in the last six weeks.
Bred by LA and largely raced in partnership with friends and families of the office staff at the farm meant that Rampant's (Towkay-On Honeymoon) win in the Open 1200m at Wanganui on Saturday carried extra significance.
Promising three-year-old Precision King (Towkay-Quasi Stellar) recorded a winning double with his latest success over 1200m at Hastings last Thursday. There has been a steady stream of bloodstock agents chasing the Murray Baker gelding since he won his previous start at Taupo, and one imagines he will be departing these shores for either Hong Kong or Singapore in the very near future.
In Victoria, Australia, Ballistic Ruler (Towkay-Ballistic) took his stake earnings to almost $100,000 with his latest success, this time over 2000m, while in Singapore, Hey Toro (Towkay-Grand Vitesse) won over 1200m.
Yet another of his sires stock to come into their own at three, the LA bred Rapidus (Darci Brahma-Rivertaine) won over 1600m in New South Wales on Saturday. Rapidus was purchased from our 2010 Karaka Premier Yearling Sale draft by Bart Cummings for $250,000 and starts this Saturday at Moonee Valley in the AAMI Vase G2 on Cox Plate day. Also in the field of 7 includes the LA bred Collar.
This week starts with the Ready to Run Sale Breeze Ups at Te Rapa, where one of the star attractions looks certain to be LA's Pins half brother to Larry's Never Late and Collar currently one of the favourites for the Group One VRC Derby on 31 October. The colt sells from the Lyndhurst Farm draft as Hip 69 on 16 November and ran a slick time of 10.4 for the 200m.
