Stedman (Second Empire-Surfside Lady), a courageous third in the Singapore Derby on Sunday was a $31,000 Karaka Select Sale purchase in 2005 by Dean Hawthorn from the LA draft on behalf of breeder Brian Collins. Noble One (Towkay - Cinzano) ran second which makes it three seconds from his last four starts.
An unnamed two-year-old Towkay - Vicki Buck colt had observers sit up with his performance at last Tuesday's Cambridge trials. A $170,000 Karaka Premier purchase by the Hong Kong Breeders Club, the colt was a winner by four and a half lengths in a time half a second quicker than the next fastest of the two-year-old catchweight 650m heats.
Another trial winner last week and no doubt the subject of a lot of Hong Kong interest was Sharkay (Towkay-Lady of the Lake) who scored over 1000m in a two-year-old catchweight heat at Waverley. Full brother Prime Target won three times in Hong Kong in the season which has just concluded, the latest at Sha Tin on 18 June 2008.
First Astronaut (Towkay-Icicles) was a winner over 1200m in Malaysia last week while locally Blackballed (Towkay-Panadol) was rewarded for consistency with a winning turn at Otaki last Thursday.
With nearly 1 million in stakes and highlighted by group one winner Special Mission Towkay's domestic season in 2007/08 has been his best yet. Putting those results alongside the fact that he's also the sire of the one of the world's better ranked milers in Armada is it any wonder that Towkay looks set to serve his biggest and certainly his best credentialed book of mares yet at LA this spring.
It's always exciting awaiting the first foals of a new stallion and it's now less than a month until the first foals from our stallion Zed (Zabeel-Emerald Dream) arrive on the farm. With 119 mares successfully tested in foal last spring, there is going to be no shortage of Zed babies and we look forward to showing you some of the early arrivals at our open day here at the farm early September.
From the best family in the NZ stud book, Zed offers breeders a fantastic opportunity to tap into the blood of leading sires Commands, Danewin, Octagonal and Kaapstad at a service fee of just $1,000 plus GST with a refund of $750 if your mare fails to get in foal.

Family, our families have done so much together in the industry and sociably, there's not too many industries today that allow you to do that.
