Well, even we at LA have been surprised at the amount of interest from breeders in Zed, since our announcement last Thursday. Sam has already taken 52 bookings. Just goes to show currently how much confidence there is in the breeding sector. As we had hoped a number of the bookings have been made from broodmare owners who have not bred their mares for quite some time – what better way to re start a broodmare career with an infusion of the bloodlines of Zabeel and Danehill through the Eight Carat family!
On the racing front horses with LA connections had a busy time of it last week.
Shaky Bridge (Towkay – Miss Georgie) made up for an unlucky debut run earlier in May when winning over 1200m at Wingatui last Thursday. Another Towkay, Electonic Million won at Mornington in Victoria on Sunday. He‘s a full brother to the colt we sold at Karaka earlier this year for $270,000 while an older full brother Stipend has already won seven in oz.
Saturday at Awapuni saw the debut of Rios ( Hussonet – Gusy Godiva) whom we had sold on behalf of Arthur and Michael Ormond at Karaka last year for $85,000. He did not disappoint running a nice second to a smart type, and will make a lovely three year-old. Rio’s half brother realised $240,000 on behalf of the same connections this year at Karaka – the buyer, a certain JB Cummings.
Saturday afternoon’s slashing performance by Pentathon in the Group One Doomben Cup was bittersweet. For just a few weeks back we had the misfortune to lose a really stunning My Halo weanling colt from a full sister to Pentathon. The mare is in foal to Towkay for our clients Richard and Sarah Greaves and we hope they have more luck with the resulting progeny.
Recently we reported on how well the family of one of our more esteemed broodmares, Clermont Lass were going around Australasia. Well the roll continues, with victories last Saturday to Sweeping Move (End Sweep – Nadia) in oz and Spud (Centaine – Justa Taste)winning at Awapuni. Keep an eye out for Clermont Lass’s unnamed three year-old O Reilly colt in training with Wayne and Tony Pike. He won a trial at Cambridge on 10 May beating the well regarded Beauty Queen (second on debut at Pukekohe on 23/5).
Tune in next week for our monthly wrap. There will be lots more interesting news on Zed and other happenings around the farm.
