LA NEWSLETTER 9 JULY 2007
There has been a lot of talk over the extremely impressive win by two-year-old Special Mission (Towkay – Te Akau Trek) on debut at Matamata last week. Trained by Mark Walker, we hope there are plenty of similarities between this filly and another Towkay filly Mark trained – also a winner on debut as a two-year-old – in Rapid Kay. She went onto compete against the very best local talent at three and four before retiring to LA where she’s currently in foal to Pins. We alerted you to Special Missions ability in a recent update so hopefully you got a bit of the $6.60 winning dividend! .
Delbrae (Thunder Gulch – We Leica) showed he’s on target after a break, for next months Winter Cup with his fourth in the Cup Trial on Sunday. A win in the Winter Cup would be great news for his mother and recent LA acquisition We Leica, but we should not get too greedy given that since we purchased her in Sydney at Easter, Delbrae has won his second Group race and his half sister Leica Light, has been stakespaced in oz.
Last Saturday Pentathon (Pentire – Star Royal) again showed his liking for firm spacious tracks with his second in the Group Three Queens Cup at Eagle Farm. Hopefully the weather this spring in Melbourne is good and John Wheelers fine stayer can add to his record. More performances like those he’s produced in Brisbane this winter would certainly increase the value of his sister Shahiid(Pentire – Star Royal) whom we own in partnership with Richard and Sarah Greaves. Shahiid is currently in foal to Towkay.
Pinnacles (Fuji Kiskei – Galroof) a winner in Victoria last Saturday, is from a half sister to the broodmare Steluta. On behalf of Ricky Savory, LA sold 2006 Group One VRC Derby runner-up Gorky Park (Montjeu-Steluta) for $360,000 at the Karaka Premier Yearling Sale in 2005. Keep an eye for Steluta’s next foal, a rising three year old by Towkay called Samphire Sam.
In case you missed the news last week, Armada (Towkay – Dance In Time) beat off four other Group One winners to land the award for Hong Kong’s Champion Miler for the just completed season. His trainer the normally conservative John Size, is extremely bullish about Armada’s prospects for even bigger success next season.
Don't forget to pop the LA Stallion Parade on 29th July in your diary and to confirm your bookings to Towkay and Zed please ring Sam on 0274 853400
