Little Avondale are reflecting on much stronger results at last Sundays National Weanling Sale at Karaka compared to the corresponding 2006 sale.
Last years consignment of 14 weanlings produced gross receipts for the stud and clients of $39,750. Sundays results were a healthier 15 sold for a return of $150,200. LA secured fourth best price of the day, $60,000 for a well grown Pins colt from Centaine Gu Li.Watch out for a neat story behind the seller of the Pins colt and more detail around some of our other sales, in the next monthly newsletter.
More good news on the breeding front over the weekend with Delbrae’s win in the time honoured WFA Group 3 Canterbury Gold Cup. As reported in the latest monthly newsletter the stud recently purchased Delbrae’s dam We Leica in foal to Bradbury’s Luck. Currently residing at Widden Stud where she’ll visit Stratum later this year, we got the staff there to give her an extra dipper on Saturday night!
On the racetrack Towzan continued his good form winning the R92 1400m at Te Rapa on Saturday from barrier 14! That’s brings the son of Towkay and Kimberlite’s record to five wins from only fourteen starts. Given his liking for soft tracks the gelding looks in for a productive autumn and early winter for Lisa Latta.
Other performances in Australia last week from horses with LA connections saw the filly Zingara (Zabeel – Spottswoode) run a nice fourth in the Group 3 South Australian Oaks - watch out for her next preparation.
Horses with connections to Clermont Lass’s family were hot to trot with Sweeping Move (End Sweep – Nadia) and Lord Bantu (Johannesburg – Nadia) both winning, the later impressively on debut..
For those of you who backed The Fonz (Traditionally – The World is Mine) down to favouritism at Te Rapa last Saturday, don t take your foot off the till just yet. He was beaten by a nice horse and is only going to continue to improve as he goes over more ground.
Join LA in our next fun racing syndicate with the Keeper – Ashley Downs’s filly. She is a rising two year old, currently being broken in by Dean Hawthorn. Keeper has had some nice fillies running around this season including the likes of Keep the Passion (Group 2 Royal Stakes) and Shesakeeper (6th in the New Zealand Oaks) so here’s your chance to maybe race another of the same quality.
