Once again stakesplaced three year-old Larry's Never Late (Pentire-Laebeel) had no luck when fourth in Saturdays Group Two Norman Robinson Stakes at Caulfield; in fact jockey James Winks must still be looking for gaps!
Bred by Angela and Tom Williams of Te Parae Stud and sold through LA's 2007 Karaka Premier draft, Larry's Never Late's dam is the Zabeel mare Laebeel who was bred by Tom and Buzz Williams. Best remembered for her fighting second to Sky Heights in the 1999 Caulfield Cup, Laebeel who is now owned by LA, has a Pins yearling filly that will race from Leon Corstens Melbourne stable next year on lease. Laebeel is due to foal to O'Reilly shortly and will then be served by Pins.
With an ounce of luck, the Jonathon Munz owned gelding can play a big part in the finish of the Group One VRC Derby on 1 November.
While Alamosa's Group One win in Melbourne on 11 October was a tremendous result for the New Zealand breeding industry and in particular Wellfield Lodge and their fellow shareholders in the O'Reilly stallion, the result also had extra significance from an LAperspective.
LA own a full and half sister to Alamosa's dam Lodore Mystic(Centaine-Logical Miss) who was herself bred by Buzz and Tom Williams. Already the dam of Group Three winning filly Eloa, Cent from Heaven (Centaine - Logical Miss) has a stunning Pins yearling filly who will be retained by LA and she was served by Pins last month.
Double Okay (Towkay-Logical Miss) who got Towkay's career as a broodmare sire off to a such a spectacular start last month when her son City Newton won on debut has a Savabeel filly at foot and in foal to Falkirk.
Eloa, also owned by LA, has her first foal, a filly by Stratum in our Karaka Premier draft early in the New Year. And she is bound to attract a lot of attention at Karaka given the families pedigree gets deeper by the month and the small number of fillies that come onto the market from such successful families these days.
The DL and Mrs DM Harrison bred Sparky Winner (Towkay-Mission Star) won over 1500m in Macau on 18 October.
