Larry's Timing Just Right For SA Derby

Larry's Never Late (Pentire-Laebeel) firmed into second favourite behind VRC Derby winner Rebel Raider for the Group One South Australian Derby with a comprehensive win against the older horses in Sunday's $50,000 Hamilton Cup in Victoria.

Bred by Tom and Angela Williams, Larry's Never Late, who was prepared for the Karaka 2007 Premier Sale by LA and sold to Robert Roulston Bloodstock for $77,500, took his stakes earnings to over $160,000 with his latest success, his fifth from just 12 career starts.

Success in the Adelaide Classic would create a unique record for LA and their 2007 Karaka Premier draft having sold Roman Emperor (Montjeu-Gussy Godiva), winner of this month's Group One AJC Derby from the same sale.

Towkay's fantastic season in Hong Kong remarkably shows no signs of abating with the son of Last Tycoon annexing another two winners on Sundays Sha Tin program, bringing his tally of individual winners for the season in the former British colony to 12 from just 17 runners, and equal to the number of winners by O'Reilly who leads the Premiership.

Mount Surplus (Towkay-Certaine) scored over 1000m while later in the evening the durable Prime Target (Towkay-Lady of the Lake) bought up his fourth Hong Kong success with victory over 1800m.

Domestically breeder Sue Harty's good run with the stock of Towkay continued when Spring Tide (Towkay-Perfect Sunrise) scored a well deserved success over 1600m last Friday. On Easter Monday Sue's bonny mare Parole (Towkay-Out on Bail) registered her 5thcareer success over 1200m at Riverton.

On the breeding front Sam and some of the team head up SH1 to Karaka next week for the National Weanling Broodmare and Mixed Bloodstock Sale on 4 - 6 May

Features of LA's draft are a striking grey Towkay weanling colt from a full sister to an Australian Group Two winner, a Dubai Destination colt from a Sir Tristram daughter of Morar, and for breeder Lorraine Jameson and probably the pick on type - a big scopey O'Reilly filly from Timamou.
