Well rated in front by Kelly Myers, Manu (Darci Brahma – Sporty Spice by Carneige) was a comprehensive winner of the feature event at Hastings on Sunday.
Trainer Roydon Bergerson and his team deserve a lot of credit for the win, the fifth of Manu’s career. The LA owned galloper hasn’t helped himself in the past by galloping too fiercely but has returned this season a much more settled horse.
Three-year-old colt Lupo Nero (Nadeem – Huntington Girl by Black Zephyr) looks set for better things judging by his six and a half length win on debut in Queensland last Wednesday.
Although unable to emulate her illustrious ancestress Sanderae in landing the Wakeful/VRC Oaks double, Thunder Lady (Mastercraftsman – Thunderchine by Thunder Gulch) reinforced the unique Classic ability of the extended family with a gallant second in the Group 1 VRC Oaks last Thursday.
Sanderae, the fourth dam of Thunder Lady and rising star Tie Me Down (Pins – Ashley Downs by Grosvenor) was bred and raced by Te Parae. Some of her other descendants include the group 1 winners Roman Emperor (AJC Derby), Black Mamba, Tully Thunder and Sandy’s Pleasure (VRC Oaks).
