Blue hen mare Sanderae (Oncidium – Nell by Knights Romance) once again exhibited her genetic influence on Australasian racing on Saturday with female descendants to the fore at Flemington and the feature New Zealand meeting at Awapuni.
Forty four years to the day after the Te Parae bred Sanderae won the Group 2 Wakeful Stakes at Flemington, her great, great, grand-daughter Thunder Lady (Mastercraftsman – Thunderchine by Thunder Gulch) won the same event. Thunder Lady will be out to again emulate her famous ancestress if successful in the Group 1 VRC Oaks on Thursday.
It may not have held quite the same stature as the Melbourne victory but the LA and Pip McCarroll bred and raced Tie Me Down (Pins-Ashley Downs by Grosvenor) showed black-type potential when finishing strongly to win over 1400m at Awapuni to remain unbeaten in three career starts. Sanderae is also the fourth dam of Tie Me Down.
Just Name It (Darci Brahma – Exilio by O’Reilly) who won over 1400m in Singapore on Sunday has a half sister by Nadeem in our Karaka draft this summer.
Kareeming (Nadeem – Karamah by Unfuwain) continued the good run for his sire in Australia when successful over 1600m in Victoria on Sunday.
