Towkay Gelding Wins Again

The Robyn Horton bred four-year-old Arzak (Towkay-Roseario by Pentire) continued on his merry way this winter with another win, his latest coming at Avondale last Friday over 1600m. The Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman trained gelding has only once finished further back than third in six starts since resuming in May from a 12 month layoff.

Shravan (Nadeem-Dancing by Spectrum) continued his good form in and around Perth of late, winning at Belmont last Wednesday over 1400m. There was a distinct LA taste about the win in Australia last week by Volcanic Sky (Nadeem-Fleur De L’Orient by Thunder Gulch) with the five-year-old Nadeem mare descending from the wonderful taproot mare Sanderae.

Ancient Bull (Darci Brahma-Trigon Lass by Centaine), who won over 1000m in Victoria last Friday was a $100,000 purchase from our 2012 Karaka Premier draft by Brad Spicer.

From a future perspective probably the highlight for the farm over the last week came courtesy of the first-starter Portman (Makfi-Farasha by Jeune) at Flemington on Saturday. Sold from our 2014 Sydney Easter Sale draft to trainer Danny O’Brien and Qatar Bloodstock, the two-year-old colt finished strongly late into third, an effort that has a lot of good judges marking him down for the spring.

First and foremost, stockman and people whose interest in the animal translates into an innate ability to read how a horse will develop. I’ll see a foal at LA and Sam or Buzz will tell me how they expect it to develop. I’ll see it during my Karaka inspections 12 months later, and you could blow me over with a feather
