Michael (Towkay-La Grandezza by Flying Spur) looked a live Singapore Derby chance when stepping up in distance and winning nicely over 2000m at Kranji last Friday. The three-year-old who was recording consecutive victories, was bred by Mark, John and R Carter and T Cheetham.
Towkay has another promising Singaporean three-year-old in Good Towkay (Towkay-Outstripping), who won his second race when successful over 1600m last week.
The group two winning Towkay filly Chicharita has been sold to Australian interests but will remain with the Moroney/Clarken stable and run in the New Zealand Oaks on 17 March, before relocating to Australia to target the AJC Oaks.
Towkay has been making rather a habit of late of getting winners at Premier meetings and the LA bred High Voltage (Towkay-New Beam) carried that on with his success over 1600m at Saturday’s dual group one meeting at Te Rapa.
Further domestic success for Towkay came in the form of Spoilt Princess (Towkay-Penjensu by Yamanin Vital), who won over 1100m at the Southland meeting last Thursday.
