Could Lightning Strike Twice

Oak Hill (Per Incanto-Isstoora by High Chaparral) has big shoes to fill if he’s to come even close to the deeds of his Group 1 winning three-quarter brother Desert Lightning (Pride of Dubai-Isstoora) but the talented Per Incanto 3YO is beginning to compile an excellent strike rate, putting back to back Melbourne metropolitan wins together when successful over 1000m at Sandown on Wednesday.

Trained by Ballymore Stables, the Wes Van Der Scheer bred gelding has won three times from five career starts, with all his victories coming on Melbourne’s city tracks. Post his latest win, the stable indicated that Oak Hill was likely to progress through his classes over the winter.

Oak Hill was a $180K purchase by Paul Moroney from LA’s 2022 Karaka Book 1 draft.

Isstoora has a Per Incanto yearling filly who has been retained by her breeder, and a weanling Per Incanto colt who is expected to head to Karaka or Sydney Easter next year.

On this side of the Tasman, another well-bred Per Incanto galloper looking like to make a mark this winter is the Allan Sharrock trained Lazio (Per Incanto-Madonna Mia by Red Clubs). The half brother to Champion Hong Kong sprinter Lucky Sweynese opened his winning account with a three and a half length win over 1200m at New Plymouth on Thursday.
