Denman Colt: Lightening Set To Strike Twice

A 100% clearance rate; a number of returning purchasers and a 15% lift in our average price from 2014 were the highlights for the farm as the Karaka Premier Sale wrapped up on Tuesday afternoon.

The last time Waikato bloodstock agent Stuart Hale bought a yearling from us at Karaka was back in 2006. That astute purchase was the Group 2 winning Hussonet colt Rios, these days a stallion and sire recently of his first group 1 winner in the Levin Classic hero Gaultier, and while Stu had to part with considerably more this week to secure the Denman-Tsukioka colt(pictured left) for $400,000, he did so with the confidence that apart from being reared on the same Masterton pasture, both colts hail from the incredibly potent blue hen Te Parae mare Sanderae.

A big vote of thanks also to IDL racing, Kieran Moore, the Hong Kong Jockey Club, Te Akau, Michael Freedman and Bruce Perry who also purchased off us. Bruce purchasing on behalf of Trelawney Stud. We trust that these yearlings can become some of your future stars.

Per Incanto (Street Cry-Pappa Reale by Indian Ridge) achieved a terrific milestone for a stallion that stood for $5,000 when his sole Premier entry, the filly from Yeah Nah realised $250,000. A great result for the farm and our partner in the yearling, Nichole Smyth
