FIRST FOAL ARRIVES FOR 2008

Last week saw the arrival of the first foal on the farm for the new season, a lovely bay filly by freshman stallion Fast N Famous from Foxtrot, making the foal a three-quarter sister to last season's stakesplaced Melbourne two-year-old Pachanga

The books for both Towkay and Zed are filling steadily and it's pleasing to see the excellent quality of mare going to Towkay . Armada was posted as the 3rd highest rated NZ bred on the International Federation Ratings this year. Zed's not short of well credentialed mares either with Cambridge breeder Ron Webby last week confirming Dangelic - a full sister to group one winner Dannamite - along with the dam of an Australian stakeswinner.

That timing is everything in this business was never better illustrated than the booking Sam received recently for Towkay from Napier's Mike Sanders and John Barry for their broodmare Follow the Sun. Mark purchased Follow the Sun from us at Junes National Broodmare and Weanling Sale for $7,500 in foal to Towkay. Then just a fortnight ago, an unnamed Towkay-Follow the Sun three-year-old gelding having his first trial, scored nicely at the Te Teko.

Two recent graduates of our Karaka Premier draft were successful at Cranbourne in Victoria last Sunday. The interestingly named three-year-old Larry's Never Late (Pentire-Laebeel) made it two wins from just three starts scoring over 1000m while Prevaricate (Postponed-Trigon Lass) was a winner at 1600m. Laebeels 4 year old Danasinga also won on Monday in Oz from just his second start from the Danny O'Brien Stable.

The Te Parae bred Larry's Never Late (Pentire-Laebeel) was a $77,500 purchase by Robert Roulston Bloodstock while Prevaricate(Postponed-Trigon Lass) was secured by Dean Hawthorne Bloodstock for $30,000 at the Karaka Premier Sale in 2006 both for one of Australia's leading owners Jonathon Munz.

Laebeel's yearling Pins filly which is her best foal to date on type, has been leased to the same syndicate in Melbourne who raced mum to run second in the 1999 Caulfield Cup. Trigon Lass has a Zabeel colt heading to Karaka this summer for LA and local breeder Jo Duncan.

Domestically the Tom Jamison and Greg James bred Hezgottow (Towkay-Oregon Lover) registered his fourth career success scoring over 1600m last Friday.

Excellence, under-pinned by a good public profile that is down to earth and friendly
