The LA bred Kina Win (Zed-Maggs) became Zed's inaugural winner when scoring over 1400m at the Southland meeting at Ascot Park on Saturday. Trained by Michael Pitman for local identity Siobhan Kirkland, Kina Win is from the Towkay mare Maggs and was purchased for his current owners from our 2009 National Weanling Sale draft by Phil Cataldo.
Towkay filly Chicharita (Towkay-Trisynd) vindicated her owner's confidence for the major age-group staying races in the New Year with an outstanding winning performance at the Ellerslie twilight races last Wednesday. The Moroney and Clarken trained three-year-old, who holds nominations for both the New Zealand Derby and Oaks, showed her class and staying prowess when finishing strongly to win the 1600m event.
Our Karaka Select Sale draft received a boost with significant pedigree upgrades over the last week. Darci's Money (Darci Brahma-Miss Moneytree), who won over 1200m in New South Wales last Sunday, has a full brother in LA's Karaka draft, while Excellent Beauty (No Excuse Needed-Chatto Creek) a 1200m winner in Singapore on 4 December has a half sister by Towkay in the same draft.
