Karaka Select 2011 Review

Karaka Select 2011 Review

The strong Premier Sale results were replicated in the Select Sale which concluded at Karaka on Friday afternoon and LA again had its share of highlights culminating in a Select Sale average of $60,125, up marginally on our 2010 average of $59,194. New Zealand Bloodstock must be applauded for the work put into both Sales, which to produce almost identical results to last year's record Sale Series is quite some achievement given the continuing global economic difficulties and the challenges facing the domestic racing industry.

It was satisfying once again to see many of our clients yearlings selling well. it was getting quite late to get a yearling properly prepared for Karaka when local breeder Mary Wilson approached us about preparing her Iffraaj-Windsorclass colt(pictured right)  in October last year, however four months later and it was champagne all round in the LA tent after the athletic colt sold to Lee Freedman (through Michael Wallace Bloodstock) for $175,000.

In a tough Select Sale for fillies we were honoured to sell the highest priced O'Reilly female, courtesy of Hawkes Bay breeder Alan Jackson's Oh Blue Angel filly, which fell to the bid of Kieran Moore Bloodstock for $66,000. Wellington clients John and Anne Gilbert went home happy after their Don Eduardo-Jabeske colt sold for $57,500 to New South Wales interests.

Maybe it's just an interlude in the aftermath of Telegraph Handicap Day at Trentham but wouldn't it be good to see the spate of fast 2 tracks we've seen over the last week continue throughout the summer. Towkay's stock really enjoy it when the dust fly's as evidenced by the winning twice at Riccarton last Thursday of Endless Gossip (Towkay-Chingquillo) in the two-year-old race, and the Te Akau Stables trained Semiprecious (Towkay-Gemardi) who scored over 1100m at just his second start.

Another Karaka Sale has been completed and all the dreams begin. We wish to thank all of those who purchased off us and wish them the very best of luck. May there be many many wins on the horizon!

Good genuine personalities, hard workers but plenty of fun
