Karaka Wrap

Solid without any spectacular results - in rugby analogy a Crusader type performance - would be an apt description of our Karaka Sale. It was pleasing to see so many good judges, many of them previous purchasers of our yearlings, buying our horses.

Cameron Cooke Bloodstock from Victoria paid $200,000 for the full brother to Larry’s Never Late, which made the Pentire colt our highest priced yearling at Karaka this year.

The week culminated with our two lots in the Festival Sale realising in excess of $70,000, including $47,500 for a Towkay colt sold our behalf of our senior groom Helen Phinney.

On the back of the continuing success of his progeny in Australia, including his latest stakeswinner Galaxy Star (Nadeem-Seven Stars), our new stallion Nadeem had a very encouraging Sale for local breeders who supported him at LA last year at $8,000 plus GST. The two Nadeem yearlings averaged $102,500.

Monachee (O’Reilly-Kincia) became the sixth individual stakes performer this season bred, reared and/or sold from the farm when successful in the time honoured Listed Couplands Bakeries Dunedin Gold Cup at Wingatui on Saturday. Bred by Lorraine Jameson and sold through our 2008 Karaka Select draft for $130,000, the comprehensive winning margin and race time on Saturday point to the six-year-old mare having genuine prospects for more black-type success over the staying trips.
