Karla Bruni Wins Group 3 Cup Again

Tough mare Karla Bruni (Pins-Cantante by Centaine) gave a rousing encore performance on Saturday to record consecutive wins in the 1600m Group 3 Estaronline 117th Winter Cup at Riccarton. With a date with Savabeel eminent, Saturday was potentially the7YO mare’s swansong.

Karla Bruni failed to meet her reserve of $40,000 when offered as part of our 2009 Karaka Select draft on behalf of her breeder Lorraine Jameson. Raced on lease to a syndicate comprising trainer Roydon Bergerson, jockey Opie Bosson, Paul Humphries and Craig Sheridan, the mare retires to join Lorraine’s broodmare band a very valuable proposition.

Towkay filly Heni (Towkay-Bahhzaar by Bahare) was brave in beating fellow 3YO’s over 1200m at Waverley last Thursday for trainer Mike Breslin and her owner/breeder Willie Duncan. Settling well back, Heni mounted a run wide around the field from the 600m and kept finishing resolutely over the top of her ten opponents. Backing up from a second placing at Hastings, the lightly raced filly looks worth following.

LA bred filly Rivertaine Coup (Pins-Rivertaine by Centaine) reinforced her improvement with her latest winning performance at Rotorua last Wednesday for trainer Graham Richardson and her owners the Coupland family from Christchurch. In five starts since resuming from a spell in March the filly has recorded two wins, a second and two thirds. Rivertaine Coup is half sister to promising Brisbane stayer Shotover River.

Redeem Bounty (Nadeem-Sparkling Bounty by Celestial Bounty) added to his solid form line with a victory over 1400m in Adelaide on Saturday. The Richard Jolley trained stallion’s latest win was his third from eleven career starts which have also included five minor placings.
