The LA bred filly Marquardt (Shamadarl-Centrefold Angel) showed with her gutsy effort in last Saturday's Listed Widden Stakes at Randwick that she'll be competitive in next months Group 1 Golden Slipper if connections pay the late entry fee.
Never looking entirely comfortable on the soft track, the $100,000 Karaka 2007 purchase for Patinack Farm by Antony Cummings was a fast finishing third, despite the track conditions, a check with 700m to run and then getting held up momentarily at the 250m.
Sticking with Australian racing from the weekend, LA's shareholding in the Redoutes Choice colt Definitive looks like paying dividends judging by the three-year-old colts strong finishing third in the Group Two Alistair Clarke Stakes at Moonee Valley.
Possibly you missed picking up a yearling at the recent sales? LA has two lots for private sale that were passed in at last months Karaka Sales. Click on the sales icon at the top of this page for more information on the Elusive City filly and the Savabeel colt, both half relations to stakeswinners.
One should never assume that horses we pass in at the sales are second raters. While we have a reputation as sellers we also appreciate potential and corresponding value in our horses. Two recent cases in point are two yearlings we bought home after passing them in at Karaka 2007; the Keeper filly now racing as Can't Keeper Down is group two placed and a live chance in next months NZ Oaks whilst the Elusive City colt known now as City Newton is a winner of two of his four starts to date and has been recently sold to Hong Kong.
