Towkay Fee Announcement And LA's Derby Knack

In a move to generate confidence with breeders in these challenging economic times we have decided to announce that Towkay will stand the 2009 breeding season at a fee of $6,500 plus GST. Towkay stood last season at $10,000 plus GST

The last 12 months has again been vindication of the son of Last Tycoon's rare ability amongst stallions to upgrade his mares. He gets high class race horses the likes of Armada, Kay's Awake and Special Mission, horses that are well sought after in the sale ring and off the racetrack; just the type of stallion breeders should be using in these times.

Currently sitting tenth on the Hong Kong Stallion Premiership with O'Reilly and Shinko King the only NZ based sires above him, Towkay has had another very good season both domestically and in Asia (also the 4th ranked sire in Malaysia).

LA remains on target to have reared and/or sold runners in each of the principal Derbies in Australia, New Zealand and Hong Kong this season following weekend racing. Larry's Never Late (Pentire - Laebeel) sixth in last Novembers VRC Derby started the ball rolling and Roman Emperor (Montjeu-Gussy Godiva) looked right on target for next months AJC Derby with an outstanding second at Rosehill on Saturday.

While Carchelo's (No Excuse Needed-Bellesinga) scratching from last Fridays St Leger Trial at Otaki meant he could not enhance his chances of making the field for this Saturdays Telecom New Zealand Derby he could still make the field if a couple of horses above him on the order of entry are withdrawn from the 2 million dollar Classic due to the fickle Auckland weather. No rain dances eh Sam!

More Bountiful (Van Nistlerooy-Centaine Gu Li) looks to be one of the main players in next months Hong Kong Derby following his close second in last months key lead up the Group 2 Hong Kong Classic Mile.

The LA and J Duncan bred Prevaricate (Postponed-Trigon Lass) a winner over 1500m in Victoria last week has a half brother by Zabeel in our draft for the upcoming Sydney Easter Sale.

Silent Prayer (Towkay-Cooininee) was successful over 1300m in NSW on 19 February while the win of Coppa Del Mondo (Van Nistelerooy-Oenotria) over 1200m at Avondale on the same day bought a smile to the faces of our clients Max Brown and Lib Petagna who own Oenotria and sold their first foal from the mare, a Savabeel colt, at last months Karaka Premier Sale for $140,000.

Up in Hong Kong on Sunday the Lorraine Jameson bred Appreciation (Danasinga - Kincia) made it two wins from two starts with his 1400m success under the impost of 60.3 kilograms. Appreciation was a $95,000 purchase by John Foote Bloodstock from our 2007 Karaka Select draft.

Organised and professional.
