LA Bred Shapes As Promising Stayer

Relishing the step to 1800m the LA bred Shotover River (Savabeel-Rivertaine by Centaine) defied a significant jump in class to take out a $50,000 event in Queensland last Monday. Trained by John Meagher and his sons Dan and Chris, the 4YO was purchased from the 2011 Karaka RTR Sale.

Shotover River is set to start this Saturday in a $200,000 race at Eagle Farm.

Nadeem 3YO Nadacheva (Nadeem-Antonicheva by Sadlers Wells) broke his maiden status in style on Saturday with a five length thumping of his nine rivals over 1400m at Newcastle. From a three quarter sister to Melbourne Cup place getter Mount Athos, it will be interesting to see how the career of the Alan Scorse trained galloper unfolds as he matures.

Towkay 3YO Rocknrolla (Towkay- Danness by Danske) gained a well deserved success with her win on Saturday in the More FM Maiden over 1400m at Ruakaka. Part of a remarkable six winners for the Dean and Donna Logan stable on the card, the filly was coming off consecutive second placings.

Bloodstock agent Joe Barnes had good reason to outlast his competition when purchasing the Per Incanto-Zalass colt for $23,000 from our draft at last month’s National Weanling Sale. Joe had bought the colt’s half brother by No Excuse Needed from us at the same sale in 2009. Bred like his half brother by Te Parae Stud, the horse racing as Luen Yat Century has been a very consistent performer in Macau, his latest win coming over 1350m last week.
