LA Makes a Solid Karaka Start
Despite having to withdraw four of his leading colts prior to the sale, Sam was still pleased with the overall Premier Sale results for the stud. "We bring our horses to sell and we've met the market" comments Sam.
In recognition of another strong season domestically and in Asia, resident sire Towkay's stock were well sought after.
The Hong Kong Jockey Club, no doubt trying to find another Armada or Ambitious/Happee Owner, secured lot 47 the colt from Clermont Lass for $110,000.
As the last lot on day one local buyer Peter Walker bought the Millie Munroe filly, closely related to his former top race-mare Tycoon Lil, for $150,000.
Taking into account that these results came off a service fee for Towkay of $5,000, that's great value for breeders in anyone's language!
As expected competition for Rios's half brother was fierce, with the astute Alan Sharrock beating off competition that included Rios's connections, finally landing the Volksraad - Gussy Godiva colt for $140,000.
Third highest price amongst the LA premier draft was the $130,000 realised for the Savabeel - Nikki's Bride filly, early on day two of the sale.
On the racing front, Towkay filly Parole made it three wins on the trot scoring at Riccarton on Saturday, despite lumping 58kgs and coming back from 1400m to 1000m. Better company awaits the Sue Harty bred three-year-old.
The saying when ‘you re hot you re hot' was never better illustrated than over the last couple of days with the family of current NZ star three-year-old Alamosa (O'Reilly - Lodore Mystic). Off the back of his great win against older horses in Saturdays Group One Thorndon Mile, came the win in Hong Kong on Sunday night of his very close blood relation Winning Fellowship (O'Reilly - Cent From Heaven). And to cap it all off, his half brother sold for $480,000 at Karaka on Monday. LA will share in some of the spinoffs from this success, owning the mare Cent From Heaven - a full sister to Alamosa's dam - and her daughter, the talented group winning filly Eloa. Cent From Heaven did not have a foal in 2006 but her "outstanding" 2007 filly foal by Pins should still be one hot commodity come Karaka 09.
We look forward to seeing you at barn F for the Select Sale.. There has been a lot of interest in our Select draft already, particularly a couple of colts who sell early in the first session. See you there!
