LOT 313 At Karaka Premier Has Pedigree Upgrade

The LA bred Rapid Kay (Towkay-Racing Waters) lived up to her name on the racetrack. She has scored twice in stakes company and been dual group one placed and we are delighted to offer her first foal, a filly by freshman sire One Cool Cat as lot 313 in the Karaka Premier Sale on 29 January.

Rapid Kay's
full sister Geordie Girl's emphatic win at Trentham on Saturday further emphasises the quality of the family. Last year at Karaka we sold a Pins-Racing Waters filly to Danny O Brien for $230,000. Geordie Girl herself was a $60,000 Karaka yearling. It's a family of athletic running types and lot 313 is typical of the family - check her out by clicking on the Premier horse on the front of our webpage www.lastud.co.nz.

Speaking of Trentham and the weekend's top quality racing, our resident sire Towkay was again to the fore. From four starters on Saturday, he had the Geordie Girl success supplemented by Itsabuzz (Towkay- Te Awahou) who ran third in the Special Conditions 1400 and the mare Kay's Awake's (Towkay-Wake Up Suzie)brave second to Seachange in the Group One Telegraph Handicap at 1200m. Kay's Awake always seems to find a Seachange or Darci Brahma a little too good for her in the big ones but she's been a great money spinner for her connections picking up over $300,000.

To round off the long weekend in Wellington nicely, Clermont Princess (Towkay-Clermont Rose) ran third in the two-year-old race on Monday. We will sell a Towkay colt from Clermont Lass the dam of Clermont Rose as lot 47 in the Karaka Premier Sale. Clermont Princess was a $135,000 purchase by John Wheeler from our Karaka Select Sale last year. Her half brother, Grand Dancer (No Excuse Needed-Clermont Rose) became a two-year-old group three winner last season after selling from our 2006 Karaka Premier draft for $280,000 to Bruce Wallace.

Towkay's female stock have made an excellent start to the season. As well as Kay's Awake's performances he's had stakeswinner Special Mission, open class performer Lady Cavalier and dual winner Parole. LA sells two well related Towkay fillies as part of our 13 strong Karaka Premier draft. The filly by the young Grosvenor mare Millie Munroe from the family of Tycoon Lil is lot 255 and lot 439 is the first foal of an imported mare Tycoon Lover from the family of successful sire's Commander in Chief and Warning.

Sam's been totaling up all the mare returns and it's fair to say neither Towkay nor Zed are short of a libido. Towkay has 54 pregnant mares and Zed 119 positives from 133 mares served! We can't wait for the breeding season and the prospect of 100 plus Zed foals on the ground.

We look forward to your inspection of our Premier and Select drafts at Karaka from this Saturday. As the sellers of the likes of Charliehorse, Rios and Pasta Post -all on behalf of owners - as well as been the breeders of Gorky Park (with Ricky Savory), Pachanga and Grand Dancer, our consignments should be on your inspection lists. Regardless we would love to see you in barn F for some good old fashioned LA hospitality.
Excellent stallions
