LA's Karaka Draft Unearths Another Stakes Winner

The fortunes of Christopher and Susanah Grace’s broodmare Galway have certainly turned for the better with the daughter of Savabeel leaving her second individual stakes winner in a fortnight with the win of Kirwan’s Lane in the 1600m Group 3 Hawkesbury Gold Cup on Saturday.

Kirwans Lane was bought from LA’s 2018 Karaka Book 1 draft by John O’Shea for $170k. A year later, Kirwan’s Lane’s full brother Johny Johny, the winner of the 1200m Listed Hawkes Bay Finance Sprint at Hastings a fortnight ago, was passed in when part of LA’s Book 2 draft.

Galway had an American Pharoah colt entered for sale at Karaka this year but was withdrawn in favour of the RTR Sale this November. The two win daughter of Savabeel is a full sister to the Grace’s dual Australian Group 1 winning mare Shillelagh.

As well as Kirwan’s Lane, buyers viewing LA’s 2018 Karaka draft could have uncovered Group 1 winner Roch ‘N’ Horse, passed in with a $40k reserve, and dual Group 1 winning juvenile Yourdeel, who cost $100k, and Australian Listed winner Craftsmanship.

LA had further reason to enjoy Saturday’s Hawkesbury meeting with the success of the Carl Holt owned and Chris Waller trained Per Incanto three-year-old Sacrimony.
