LA Update 18th June 2007

LA WEEKLY UPDATE 18 JUNE

Towkay was represented by two placegetters Egotistic (Vain Lover) and Greed (Sobraine) at Avondale and New Plymouth respectively.

Towkay kept up his recent impressive strike rate at the trials with Special Mission (Towkay – Te Akau Trek) winning most impressively at the Cambridge trials last week. A winner by three lengths, the Mark Walker trained filly ran the fastest time of six two-year-old 1000m catchweight heats on the days programme. Mark knows a thing or two about Towkay fillies, having trained the stakeswinning Rapid Kay.

Towkay also had Dash (Towkay – I’m Jess) salute the judge first in Hong Kong on Sunday in a class 4 event over 1800m. Towkay still holds the 7th position on the Hong Kong Premiership.

Winning Fellowship (O Reilly – Cent from Heaven) continued his remarkably consistent season in Hong Kong with yet another second, this time in a Class 3 event over 1000m. The LA owned Cent From Heaven is fashioning an enviable record as a broodmare. Including the classy Group winning filly Eloa and the multiple Australian metropolitan winner I’m In Heaven, she now has four foals of racing age who have all won. An interesting two-year-old to watch out for in the new season is Cent From Heaven’s currently unnamedPins filly. Already with more muscles than Mike Tyson, the Te Parae owned filly looks just the type to run early and quick! Unfortunately Cent From Heaven does not have a 2007 foal but she was covered by Pins last year.

In Singapore last Friday the LA bred and sold Veeandvee (O Reilly – Aspects of Love) scored her second win, this time over 1600m. Sold out of our draft for $22,000 at the 2005 Karaka Premier Yearling Sale to Dominique Farms, the filly is closely related to the stakeswinning mare College Union. Aspects of Love has a weanling colt by Towkay. At this years Karaka Select Yearling Sale we sold a Danasinga colt for $110,000 to Michael Steadman Bloodstock.

The dam of Del Sarto(Langfuhr – Balmoral Babe), a winner at Te Awamutu last Sunday is a half sister to the young LA broodmare Centrefold Angel (Centaine – Our Kathleen). Centrefold Angel currently has her first foal on the ground, a daughter of the exciting freshman stallion Shamardal, and is safely in foal to Pins.

The New Zealand Bloodstock South Island Sale is taking place on 10 August and for the first time in a number of years LA won t be taking a draft across Cook Straight. We will however be selling under the banner of The Pines our Dubai Destination gelding from Rivertaine. Given the deeds of Rivertaine’s progeny in Hong Kong and how well the first crop of Dubai Destination were received at Karaka and Sydney Easter, we would expect him to be one of the sought after lots in the sale.

A real sense of stockmanship and a love of the animal. When our mares arrive back from LA, they look like they’ve had a month at Club Med, with some of the trimmings of the buffet, but also the glow of having had the attention of a personal trainer
