Exciting LA bred Per Incanto colt Magnum (Per Incanto-Sound Lover by Sound Reason) had to call on his mothers tenacity and his sires class to win over 1400m in Singapore on Sunday, in the process prompting winning jockey Corey Brown to comment “He’s got the Guineas written all over him”. The 1600m Group 1 Singapore Guineas is the third leg of the Singapore Three-Year-Old Challenge.

Despite being posted three-wide for a time and over racing, the Michael Freedman trained colt still came away near the line to record his second win in four career starts. Magnum has now won over $100,000 for his owners which include LA, Ben Falloon, Michael and Nicky Wallace, David Wallace, Jason Fleming, Johnnie Walker, Justin Knight and Peter Taylor.

Saint Emilion (Mastercraftsman-Roserio by Pentire), who highlighted his claims for some nice middle-distance handicaps with his latest win at Matamata on Saturday over 1600m, was bred by the late Robyn Horton and passed in when part of our 2013 Karaka Select Sale. The Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman trained four-year-old is proudly raced by Robyn’s estate.
Improved track conditions played into the hands of The Wolf (Rip Van Winkle-Baradevi by Volksraad) when successful in the three-year-old event at the local Tauherenikau meeting last Thursday. Raced by his breeders, Sam, Catriona and Jim Barlow, The Wolf was recording win his first success at just his third career start.
