Headlined by Group 1 winner Santa Monica (Per Incanto-Monarch by Volksraad), Per Incanto’s fillies and mares have enjoyed a fruitful last 18 months. Thursday’s Riccarton open handicap winner Belle Fascino (Per Incanto-Playing for Keeps by Keeper) and recent Premier day winner Sweepstake (Per Incanto-Lottery by Carnegie) fit a familiar profile.
After landing a rating 72 event in September, the Goodwood Stud bred Belle Fascino has gone onto record a further two wins and five placings, including three at black-type level with the highlight a dead-heat for second with Kiwi Ida in the Group 3 Valachi Downs Canterbury Breeders Stakes back in November
1000 Guineas place getter Sweepstake has been lightly raced since with the 6YO mares recent win, her fourth, coming at her 29th career start. During that time, she’s been a model of consistency for her breeder and part owner Christopher Grace, recording 11 minor placings including another two at stakes level.
With an emerging reputation as a sire of the fairer sex, Per Incanto offers breeders a genuine opportunity for a return with a filly. As more of his better-bred fillies start to get to the racetrack, that’s a credential that’s sure to be enhanced.
