Lightly raced Towkay mare Waikawa (Towkay-Harinui by Generous) showed her serious potential with an outstanding performance to finish third in the Group 3 Hiremaster Cuddle Stakes over 1600m at Trentham on Saturday.
The Christopher and Susannah Grace bred and owned 4YO was having just her third raceday start following previous wins at Trentham and Hastings.
Sunday’s Hong Kong Derby meeting may have unearthed another exciting Towkay performer in the form of four and a half length 1200m winner Numero Uno (Towkay-Mulensky by Stravinsky). Such was the ease of the win, race caller Darren Flindell commented that the margin could easily have been double that if jockey Zac Purton had felt inclined to ride the 4TO gelding out to the line.
Numero Uno was the third individual Hong Kong winner for Towkay in eight days with Generous Bobo (Towkay- Melanie by Al Akbar) winning at Sha Tin last Sunday then Speedygonzalez (Towkay-Luscious Lass by Al Akbar) recorded his third straight win with a two length success in a slick 1.09.54 for the 1200m at Happy Valley on Tuesday.
Zed (Zabeel-Emerald Dream by Danehill) had his third individual stakeswinner when his 3YO son Sir Gus (Zed-It’s Only Me by Deputy Governor ) proved too strong for his rivals taking the Group 3 Hyland Race Colours New Zealand St Leger over 2500m. The Anne and Kevin Gray bred and part owned gelding was winning on the third occasion from just seven career starts.
Crucial (Nadeem – Dawn Attack by Fantastic Light) took her stake earnings beyond $200,000 with her in over 2040m at Moonee Valley on Friday night.
The win of Rapidus (Darci Brahma – Rivertaine by Centaine) in Victoria on Saturday should have heightened interest in his half brother by Per Incanto (Street Cry – Papa Reale) who sells as LOT 80 in the South Island Sale on 13 April.
