The Sprint Classic and Newmarket Handicap are two of the most prestigious Group 1 races run in Australia, and now Per Incanto has added Victoria’s only Group 1 race for 2YO's the (1200m) Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes to the honour roll of races won by his progeny following the win of the David Wallace bred colt Little Brose (Per Incanto- Mohegan Sky by Rapid Man) in the 2023 edition on Saturday at Sandown.
Per Incanto’s sixth Group 1 winner, Little Brose was selected by Dean Hawthorne and purchased by Lindsay Park Racing for $200k from the Sledmere draft at the 2022 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
Success in the AUS $2 million event continues the great run success enjoyed by the training partnership of Ben and JD Hayes and that of their family in the Blue Diamond, with their father David training six winners of the race including the former LA stallion Nadeem, and their great grandfather Colin who won it on three occasions.
Little Brose becomes only the second NZ bred to win the time-honoured race in its 53 year history, the other been the Champion filly Courtza in 1989, who then went onto land the Group 1 Golden Slipper.
Per Incanto, whose Australian progeny earnings for the current season stand at over AUS $6.5 million, has three yearlings catalogued for the Melbourne Premier Sale which gets underway at Oaklands Junction on 5 March.
