A noticeable feature of Per Incanto’s exceptional 2018/19 season has been the performance of the fairer sex, results which made his fillies such a hit at Karaka earlier this year, and the trend continued at Ellerslie on Saturday with a winning double to a pair of mares, one of whom looks a serious contender for black-type honours next season.
The Haunui Farm bred Marzemino (Per Incanto-Florimont by Pins) pictured, overcame an outside gate to record her fifth success in ten career starts, outsprinting her rating 82 1200m opponents with a slick 33.09 last 600m. Expertly handled by Peter and Dawn Williams, the Pukekohe trainers have been public in their belief that the four-year-old Per Incanto mare is stakes quality in time.
There have been few bigger supporters of Per Incanto amongst the training fraternity than affable Matamata conditioner Graham Richardson, who with training partner Gavin Parker has had a very successful 2018/19 season. Saturday’s all the way Ellerslie winner Incantesimo (Per Incanto-Tutuland by Green Desert) joins the likes of promising mare La Mia Stella (Per Incanto-O’Stellar by O’Reilly) and multiple winners Short Fuse (Per Incanto-Only Explosive by One Cool Cat) and Precision Miss (Per Incanto-Miss Moneytree by Pins) from the stable.
