Little Avondale stallions Nadeem and Per Incanto were to the fore at the two NZ meetings at Awapuni and Avondale on Anzac Day, with the Manawatu feature giving Per Incanto his 24th stakes performer.
It took Rock On Wood, one of NZ’s most progressive sprinter/milers, and in receipt of 7kgs, to deprive Gr.1 winner Shadows Cast (Per Incanto-Ages Past by Slavic) of a 4th stakes win in the Listed Manawatu ITM Anzac Mile. The Mark Oulaghan galloper went down in a close finish to the lighter weighted favourite, with Cutting Up Rough (Per Incanto-Lutine Belle by O’Reilly) finishing strongly for third, followed by Dolcetto (Per Incanto-Our Shiraz by Nediym) in fourth.
Bred by Te Parae’s Angela Irving, Cutting Up Rough is Per Incanto’s 24th stakes performer and his 12th alone in season 2018/19.
Earlier on the Awapuni card, Magico (Per Incanto-Our Aspiration by Mi Preferido) led all the way to win the rating 72 1200m, while at Avondale, wins by the LA bred Mussolini (Per Incanto-Silk Spur by Rusty Spur) and the Stephen McKee trained Magic of the Sun (Per Incanto-Sunstrike by Rock of Gibraltar) took to 47 the number of individual NZ winners for Per incanto in the season under review.
The LA, Brian Hutchinson and Don Gordon bred Che Guevara (Nadeem-Nikki’s Bride by O’Reilly) made it a successful Awapuni trip for Ralph Manning’s Cambridge stable ( trainers of Cutting Up Rough) when he finished impressively to win the maiden 1400m.
