Proven Families To The Fore

Proven Families To Fore

Tau Tona (Towkay-My Wild Irish Rose) a winner over 1200m at Otaki last Friday for breeders NJ & WM Cavanagh hails from the family of LA broodmare Laebeel, A winner of nearly half a million in prizemoney in Australia, Laebeel is best remembered for her close second to Sky Heights in the Caulfield Cup. Laebeel has a Pins filly at foot and is in foal to O'Reilly.

LA's draft of 15 yearlings for the Premier Session of the National Yearling Sale Series at Karaka commencing on 28 January 2008, features two colts and three fillies by first season sire Savabeel a dual group one winner including the Cox Plate as a three year old. Lot 332 the brown colt from Steluta is bound to generate plenty of interest. The colt is a half brother to stakeswinner Gorky Park, runner-up in last years VRC Derby to Efficient. The yearling franks his pedigree by outstanding looks and confirmation.

The Savabeel fillies from Nikki's Bride, La Charea and Bering Island are also lovely types with the Bering Island filly in particular bound to have major appeal to buyers looking to purchase fillies with high residual value after their racing careers. This Premier catalogue is low on numbers of fillies so interest is sure to be high on good types with strong pedigrees.

The Ellerslie carnival over Christmas features high class New Zealand group and stakes level racing. Perennial group one bridesmaid Kay's Awake (Towkay-Wake Up Suzie) may struggle to get the post for the Group One Railway on New Years Day after incurring a stone bruise last week. Emerging staying find Aukay (Towkay-Auchtric) looks to guarantee himself a place in the Dunstan Stayers Final on the last day of the carnival with a strong performance in Boxing Days Dunstan Feeds Qualifier. Second at his last start to the exciting Pasta Post and third two starts prior to subsequent group 2 winner Needuask, Aukay will be looking to emulate The Fuzz in taking out the hotly contested Dunstan Final.

On behalf of all the team at LA we wish our clients and friends a very merry Christmas and prosperous New Year. Don t forget you are all welcome to the yearling parade here at the stud on the 13 January starting at 10.30am. Put it into your diaries. Sam is on deck over the Xmas break and would be happy to show any of the draft in the meantime. Just give Sam call on 0274 853400.
