Quality Continues From LA’s Karaka Draft
Mightybeel (Savabeel-Super Power by Alamosa) gave Tauranga breeder Jim Barlow his 2nd stakes performer in three days and became the seventh black type performer from LA’s 2019 Karaka draft when a strong finishing 2nd in the 2000m Listed STC Cup at Rosehill on Saturday.
On Thursday at Otaki, the Jim Barlow bred Barrow Boy (Savabeel-Baradevi by Volksraad), a $90,000 purchase by Go Racing from LA’s 2020 Karaka book 1 draft, finished 3rd in the 1600m Group 3 Lucia Valentina Stakes.
Another Go Racing purchase, this time for $200,000, Mightybeel produced a promising performance in his stakes debut and looks set to add considerably to prizemoney earnings already in excess of his purchase price.
LA’s 2019 Karaka draft has to date produced Group 1 winner Bonham (Per Incanto), Group 3 winner Whimsical, dual Oaks placed filly Charms Star (Per Incanto), 2000 Guineas runner-up Bourbonaire and Group 2 placed Melbourne juvenile Baaqyah.
Meanwhile at Otaki on Thursday, Nod of the Head (Per Incanto – Can't Keeper Down by Keeper), another member of LA’s 2019 Karaka draft, continued his ascent of the Central Districts intermediate grade sprinter milers with an easy win over 1400m.
