Spotlight On LA Mare

As a daughter of Sound Lover, the young mare Rites of Spring (Stravinsky-Sound Lover by Sound Reason) had a lot going for her when retired to the LA paddocks in 2005.

Injury sadly cut short the promising career of her second foal Bare Bear (Zabeel), but her two most recent progeny of racing age both look horses of considerable talent going by their respective maiden wins recently.

The strongly built 4YO Fyodor (Darci Brahma-Rites of Spring) won his debut by three and a half lengths over 1200m at Hastings on 10 November and then last Thursday at Waipa his year younger full sister Brah Spring bolted away with an 1150m event by over four lengths. Brah Spring was fresh-up after a couple of runs as a juvenile last season and like her brother looks to have benefitted considerably from a bit of time.

Rites of Spring has a cracking Nadeem colt foal at foot this year.

Another daughter of Sound Lover on the farm shaping up as an exciting broodmare prospect is the Savabeel mare Savamour. Her first foal, a Stratum colt, who sold from our Karaka Premier draft last year ran third on debut in an $85,000 race in Perth recently, and Savamour has a Pins colt – LOT 232 -in our Karaka draft this year whom we feel to be one of the best Pins yearlings we have ever taken to a sale.

With all that Sound Lover has achieved it’s fitting she is the dam of the first Per Incanto yearling – LOT 263 – to be sold at Karaka, and the only representative be her freshman sire in the upcoming Premier Sale – he has 14 lots in the Select Sale.

Family, our families have done so much together in the industry and sociably, there's not too many industries today that allow you to do that.
