LA Bred Game 2nd In Group 1

Class Towkay mare Viadana (Towkay-Yeah Nah), who is already a Group 1 winner, took her performance to a new level with a courageous 2nd in one of the best fields assembled in New Zealand for a number of seasons in Saturday’s 1600m Group 1 Captain Cook Stakes at Trentham.

Checked just after the start and again with 200m to run, the LA bred mare showed herself right up with best gallopers in the land on Saturday’s effort. Her clashes with another LA bred mare Xanadu (Elusive City –Forest Dream) in the fillies and mares races over the summer and autumn promise to be a seasonal highlight.

The influence of the wonderful Te Parae matron Sanderae was in evidence at the International day at Sha Tin in Hong Kong on Sunday when Glorious Day’s (Hussonet-San Century) took out the Group 1 Hong Kong Mile. Sanderae is the great grand dam of San Century the mother of Glorious Days.

We have a colt in our Karaka Select Sale draft this summer who is also a descendant of the great mare. He’s LOT 979, a Per Incantocolt from New Zealand Oaks runner-up Can’t Keeper Down.

A colt sold from our draft at the 2011 Karaka Weanling Sale made an impressive winning debut in Victoria on Sunday. Bred by Lorraine Jameson and bought at Karaka by Victoria’s Grange Thoroughbreds, Zedeel (Zed-Sanuk) won over 1400m for trainer Michael Kent.

Aside from Sam greeting me at Karaka every year with “Have I got a horse for you” it’s about breeding successful and sound horses
