Star Mare Enhances Career of Former LA Stallion

Despite more twists than the Rimutaka Hill Road, Zed has fashioned a stallion career that is the envy of many studmasters. With the progeny of his best mares still to reach their optimum racing age, it’s a career with more chapters to come but in Verry Elleegant (Zed-Opulence by Danroad), second in the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) at Randwick on Saturday, the son of Zabeel has the type of horse to seal a career which began at LA in 2007.

Very Elleegant relegated Japanese star Danon Premium into third as she beat all but British raider Addeybb in a star-studded Queen Elizabeth field, in the process taking her stakes earnings to $3.6 million.

The four-year-old mare is expected to be spelled in preparation for a spring campaign that may include a tilt at the Group 1 Melbourne Cup.

LA are proud to have been part of Zed’s career and have enjoyed in particular the relationships the farm has forged with the Carter family who bred and still part own the stallion with LA, and the Corcoran family at Grangewilliam Stud in Wanganui where Zed currently stands.

Just wanted to say a huge thanks to all the team at Little Avondale for doing another amazing job looking after my mare and bringing her precious foal safely into the world. Always such a relief knowing they will have the best of care with you!
