LA’s outstanding run of results with juveniles continued at Te Rapa on Saturday when Yourdeel (Dundeel-Miss Zapper by Red Ransom) won the two-year-old event by five and a half lengths.
A $100,000 purchase by Chris Rutten Bloodstock from the LA draft at Karaka Book 1 earlier this year, the impressive debut winner shapes as a genuine contender for the Karaka Million on January 26.
Last season saw ten 2YO’s either bred and/or sold by the farm win races as juveniles and while not a deliberate policy to change focus from breeding and offering the classic and middle distance performers that LA have so proudly stood for, it provides buyers with a wider range of options when considering the LA drafts at sale time.
Te Rapa also witnessed Magnum’s (Per Incanto-Sound Lover by Sound Reason) return to the races and despite not being entirely comfortable in the going, the 6YO showed he’s right on target with his major summer mile assignments with a courageous second in the 1400m Group 3 J Swap Contractors Sprint.
Further south at Awapuni, the Don Gordon bred Real Beach (Nadeem-Mayfair by Grosvenor) continued Nadeem’s good trot when she won over 2100m.
