Time Test’s recent results and his progression amongst the NZ sires ranks has reinforced the adage that patience is truly the greatest virtue in breeding thoroughbreds. The son of Dubawi has had another productive week, highlighted by the performances of two very progressive types at the New Zealand Cup Carnival.
Testing, on debut for Royden Bergerson, and Prestissimo, for Hawke's Bay trainers Richard McKenzie and Jordan Bassett, were successful at the Tauherenikau meeting last Sunday.
Jon Ol Rocco, who has looked the goods since his 3YO season, and Spot On Time, both won valuable open handicaps during the Cup carnival.
Success for the Jamieson Park bred 5YO Jon Ol Rocco was his sixth in a 19-start career, which has accumulated nearly $200,000 in stake earnings. The Andrew Carston trained gelding was a $40,000 Karaka Book 1 purchase by Paul Willetts.
Having just his ninth career start, the Kamada Park bred Spot On Time made his open class debut a winning effort, recording his fourth success in style by four lengths. A long striding 4YO, who probably wasn’t suited to the soft track conditions on the last day of the carnival, his ceiling could still be a way off.
Time Test’s fifth domestic winner for the week came at Woodville on Sunday in the form of Sumosaurus. Bred and part owned by the farms Stallion Groom Helen Phinney, the 5YO's maiden success was well deserved after placing at three of his four starts going into Sunday’s fresh up run.
LA in partnership with B Hart and I MacDonald have an outstanding Time Test gelding in this weeks RTR Sale at Karaka. Lot 54, out of a Per Incanto mare, who is unraced sister to a Group 3 winner, the Riversley Park prepared galloper breezed up stylishly in 10.14.
While it may have been a case of what if, as Jimmysstar got no luck in the Group 1, Per Incanto again reminded his Australian audience just what a prepotent stallion he has become as his smart 3YO Rue De Royale added another black type performance to his impressive resume when second in the Group 3 Blue Sapphire Stakes at Caulfield.
Per Incanto sits inside the top 10 on the Australian Sires premiership and Time Test in 13th position on the NZ premiership. Interestingly the only younger stallion ahead of Time Test is Almanzor.
